International MIFA Campus @ AniMela
The Aniverse & Visual Arts Foundation (AVAF) hosted the prestigious International MIFA Campus (IMC) in India for the first time during the AniMela Festival in Mumbai, January 2024. This four-day intensive workshop, led by renowned IMC mentors Reza Riahi (Animation Filmmaker), Delphine Nicolini (Artistic Producer), and Johanna Goldschmidt (Scriptwriter), empowered eight Indian creators to refine their animation projects and prepare them for production.
Highlights
- Esteemed Jury: IMC mentors joined celebrated filmmakers Ashutosh Gowariker and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra< to evaluate the pitches.
- Winning Pitch: “LALA,” presented by Isha Mangalmurti and Shreeya Wagh, emerged as the standout winner.
PROJECTS
1) M.O.M – Ma On a Mission, a feature film by RITUPARNA SARKAR & SRUTI MENON
Theme: MOM is a light hearted take about the identity crisis Indian moms often feel.
2) RISING TIDES, a short film by PARI SATARKAR
Theme: A marine researcher straining her friendship with a young fisherman’s daughter over industrial fishing, which pushes her to realize she needs to change her own perspective to share the beauty and value of the marine world.
3) LALA, a series by ISHA MANGALMURTI & SHREEYA WAGH
Theme: The year is 2010 and 14-year-old Lala and her ragtag football team are thick as thieves.Through countless everyday mischiefs and challenges, both big and small, these girls are hurtling undeterred towards their ultimate goal of becoming National Champions.
4) TABLE FOR ONE, a series by DEBJYOTI SAHA & DHRUV SEHGAL
Theme: Each story strives to somewhere find a connection between human emotion/identity and food.
5) HIDE & SEEK, a short film by KRISHNA CHANDRAN
Theme: In the wake of a tragic accident during a game of hide and seek, a guilt-stricken ten-year-old boy is pursued by his remorse, embodied as a mystical Garuda, interweaving the realms of ancient ritual and childhood innocence.
NAMASTE MIFA
As part of AniMela’s global initiative, NAMASTE MIFA showcased four selected projects at an exclusive India Pitch Event during MIFA (Marché International du Film d’Animation) in Annecy. Organized by AniMela and co-hosted by Assemblage Entertainment and Zebu Animation Studios, the event introduced Indian talent to a curated global audience of studios, distributors, and investors.
